Our Staff


Tara McKenzie – Attorney

Attorney McKenzie earned her B.S. degree from the University of Michigan and her Juris Doctor degree from Thomas M. Cooley Law School. She is a member of the State Bar of Michigan (Social Security Section), the American Bar Association, the Livingston County Bar Association and the National Organization of Social Security Claimants' Representatives (NOSSCR). She has been practicing law for over 20 years and is admitted to practice in state and federal courts. Before specializing in disability law, she worked as an advisor to the automobile manufacturing industry for over ten years

She also served on the Board of Directors of HERO of Washtenaw County, and has been a mentor for homeless individuals, helping them to overcome obstacles to housing and a stable lifestyle. As a result, she has been a guest lecturer on various topics at the University of Michigan, the National Business Institute, the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) and other local organizations.


With offices in Brighton and Ann Arbor, Ms. McKenzie handles cases in Livingston, Washtenaw, Monroe, Oakland, Wayne, Genesee, Ingham and Jackson counties. She cares about her clients and has persistence in the courtroom. This has made her a very effective and successful Social Security Disability attorney. She wins a high percentage of her cases.

Jeanette Mason – Senior Case Manager

Ms. Mason has worked as a legal assistant in Social Security Disability for close to 20 years. She works as a senior case manager developing our cases for the initial level and for appeals. She also handles many special projects within the firm, including benefits reinstatement cases and overpayment disputes. She is also one of our seminar instructors for our community education program. Jeanette has a great rapport with local social security staff and hearing offices. As a “veteran” employee in the office, Jeanette has extensive knowledge about Social Security Disability and helps her clients every step of the way during the process.


Her attention to detail and her persistence come in handy for working with the Social Security Administration, which can be confusing and difficult. Because of this, she can solve many difficult problems which arise. Jeanette has raised her family in the Livingston County area and has been part of the community for many years.

Ellen Kosberg – Case Manager

Emmalee Lubinski – Administrative Assistant

Emmalee is a administrative assistant who works remotely for our office. She started working with Weir & McKenzie back in 2010 and has returned after a short leave to start a family. In her role as a remote case manager, she coordinates with our staff and clients to complete tasks and develop cases at the initial and appeal levels of Social Security Disability.


Emmalee attended Oakland Community College and holds an Associate’s Degree. She is active in her church and leads young children in a kids program called Awana. Emmalee is a great asset to our firm, as she exemplifies teamwork and a great attitude!

Lou Weir – Attorney - Retired

Mr. Weir has been practicing for over 30 years, specializing in Social Security Disability. He is a graduate of the University of Michigan and received his Juris Doctor degree from Cooley Law School. As an expert concentrating on Social Security law, he works on giving the best possible representation to his clients. He has had many successful appeals at the Courts of Appeal and The Michigan Supreme Court.



He is currently a council member of the Social Security section of the Michigan State Bar Association. Because of his expertise in Social Security Disability, Mr. Weir has been invited to speak to various groups concerning these issues.
